Eleven of us (and Maisie, Martin’s dog) completed a five mile walk from the Grumpy Mole pub on Brockham Green on a bright and almost cloudless Monday morning.

We walked down the old coach road to Betchworth golf club and then through the course to visit Betchworth castle.

In the 13th century it was a fine fortified home ,which eventually fell into ruin in Victorian times.

There were fine views en route ( photo ) and from the rear of the castle. We then retraced our steps to the golf club and walked through Betchworth park , to reach Punchbowl Lane and then Priory Farm , returning to Brockham via the old coach road.

An excellent lunch was then had by all at the Grumpy Mole pub .
